If you plan on residing in Spain for longer than three months after your entry date, it is compulsory to have a NIE Number.
The NIE Number technically expires three months after it is issued to you. It exists to help you obtain all the paperwork that you need to reside in Spain legally and it will be used to identify you with just about everything.
An N.I.E is a number assigned to each individual so each family member including children and pensioners must apply independently. An N.I.E begins with an 'X' and is issued to you on a piece of paper, not a card, with an official stamp from the Foreigner's Office.
It is not a residency card and it is not permission to reside. The number is permanent and it will never change, even if you move or lose it.
When it comes to applying for this we will be able to assist you every step of the way advising exactly what is required in order to obtain this.
